History
St. Henry Tile Co., Inc.
started in business on April 1, 1960. Al Homan, Robert Boeckman,
and Ray Kremer joined together as they realized the need for drain tile
in the area. St. Henry Tile Company
started out by manufacturing 4"-15" concrete tile. At that time we
also sold coal, bagged cement and mortar, and aggregate.
In 1966, we expanded into the ready-mix concrete
business.
In 1969, we became a brick dealer. At that
time, there were 5 dealers in Mercer County and now we are the only one.
In 1974, Robert Boeckman, one of the original owners
sold out to Louis Stahl, who worked for the company from 1972 to 2004.
In 1974, we purchased Berne Ready Mix. This
company was similar to St. Henry Tile., by selling ready-mix concrete,
making concrete tile, and selling brick, block, etc...
In 1981, we purchased a sand and gravel pit located
east of Geneva, Indiana, which we named Limberlost Sand and Gravel.
This quarry supplied us with our concrete sand and natural stone for our
ready-mix operation. We also had mason sand and pea gravel at this
location. We eventually closed this quarry as the aggregate supply
has been depleted.
In 1985, we purchased the Heckler Electric building
located along 703 east of Celina. We named this store Grand Lake
Builders Supply. A few years later, the UPS building located on S.
Mill St. became available in Celina, Ohio. So, we purchased this
site due to the increased sales in that area.
As our business expanded into the Celina area, we
also set up a satellite ready-mix batch plant at the Stoneco Quarry on
Karch Road west of Celina, Ohio. we load ready-mix trucks at this
plant for jobs in that area to reduce the delivery time and expense.
In 1991, we expanded to Greenville, Ohio by
purchasing Greenville Concrete Products. We gave it a new name as
Wayne Builders Supply. We manufacture our own masonry block at
this plant. At Greenville, we sell brick, block, and many other
products related to our business.
In 1994, we purchased the Block Yard in St. Marys,
Ohio which we operated under the Grand Lake Builders Supply name.
We manufactured patio stones and other small concrete precast items
there.
In 1997, a new building was built on Riley Road
between Celina and St. Marys for Grand Lake Builders Supply. With
this central location, the offices in Celina and St. Marys were closed.
We stock and display many items for the concrete, masonry, and drainage
industry as well as pavers, flagstone, and other landscaping products.
In 1998, land was purchased near Pennville, Indiana
which is another source of our sand and gravel for our ready-mix as well
as mason sand and pea gravel. This quarry is known as Pennville
Sand and Gravel. The following year a satellite ready-mix plant
was erected on that site to enable expansion of service in that area.
In 1998, we also bought Minster Supply to provide us
with a larger customer base east of St. Henry. We stock and
display items for the concrete, masonry, and drainage industry as well
as landscaping products.
Progressively, the business grew as new products were
introduced and other locations were purchased. Ready-mix concrete
is now our primary business.
We are currently manufacturing masonry block and
concrete precast items for agricultural and residential use. We
also have a large resale business as you will find our most popular
items listed in the Products and Services page as you browse our
website.
